It's been a little while since I've blogged anything cause I have been stuck in a bit of a drawing rut. AND THEN I fractured my elbow when I fell off my longboard like a chump! So the last 2 weeks Ive been catching up on TV and being bored outta my mind! Luckily, it wasnt my drawing arm I injured, and I was able to sketch some.
I downloaded a trail version of Sketchbook Pro, which I've quite enjoyed and might make the switch to that program instead. What do you guys think of it?
To get drawing again, I just wanted to bust out a bunch of sketches around a theme, so I used animals. I really recommend this if you ever feel like I did/do. Drawing 26 things isn't too big a feat but it's enough to clear those sketching and designing cobwebs!
After sketching for the A-Z of animals, I went on my first big day out alone, in a sling to London Zoo and it had completely freed me up from the last time I'd been there.
It has also been a lovely warm up to an animal drawing workshop I will be taking in Paris next week with the legendary animal artist and teacher, Joe Weatherly. I can't wait to compare these sketches with the sketches on my final day learning with Joe.
I find it so difficult to get character into my animal sketches like I do when I draw people. If you have any tips or resources that might help, please comment and let me know!

ReplyDeleteFantastic post, some really great drawings! I'm really inspired to do this exercise, definitely going to give it a go. I really need to work at getting more personality in my animal drawings, sounds like that class is going to be ace! Enjoy :)
